Kerry Dixon joined Chelsea from Reading for £175,000 in 1983 and made an immediate impact scoring twice on his debut, as promotion favourites Derby County were beaten 5-0 on the opening day of the 1983-84 season. Kerry scored 34 goals that year, including a hat-trick in the promotion clinching 5-0 victory at Stamford Bridge against Leeds United and the Championship clinching goal in the final day win at Grimsby Town. Dixon’s impact on the First Division, the following season, was equally impressive, scoring with a memorable volley in the opening match at Arsenal’s Clock End, he finished as joint top scorer (alongside Gay Lineker) with 24 league goals, to share The Golden Boot. With 193 goals, Dixon is Chelsea's third highest goal scorer of all-time and eighth in Chelsea’s all-time appearances list. He left Chelsea for Southampton in 1992 in a £575,000 transfer deal.
