Peter Osgood

Born in Windsor, Peter Osgood was the star among stars of the glamorous Chelsea side of the 1960s and 1970s. He joined Chelsea as a junior and made his debut in a League Cup tie against Workington at the age of 17, scoring twice. For ten seasons Ossie was an automatic choice in the team and made 380 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 150 goals, in two spells with the club. Osgood famously scored in every round of Chelsea’s FA Cup run in 1970, and was part of the team which lifted the 1971 European Cup Winners' Cup, when he scored goals in the Final and Final Replay against Real Madrid. Osgood’s 1973 volley, scored in the Sixth Round of the FA Cup, at The Shed End, against Arsenal was voted BBC Match of the Day’s 1972-73 Goal of the Season. A statue of Peter Osgood stands outside the West Stand at Stamford Bridge.
