1975 FA Cup Final
3rd May 1975 - Wembley Stadium London
Attendance: 100,000
2 - 0
West Ham United v Fulham
A.Taylor 60, 64
On Saturday 3 May 1975, eleven years after Bobby Moore led West Ham United to their first FA Cup success in the 1964 Cup Final victory over Second Division Preston North End, Hammers' captain Billy Bonds led West Ham to their second FA Cup triumph, in the 2-0 victory, against Bobby Moore's Second Division Fulham. Two goals, scored in the 60th and 64th minutes, by Alan Taylor, winning the Cup at Wembley for West Ham.
Cup Winners: West Ham Uniteds triumpht Captain, Billy Bonds lifts the FA Cup
West Ham United manager John Lyall signed Taylor from Fourth Division Rochdale in late 1974, for £40,000 and fortunately Taylor was not cup-tied, and eligible to play in West Ham's FA Cup campaign, as injury had kept him out of Rochdale's 1st and 2nd Round Proper FA Cup matches against Marine and Tranmere Rovers. In the FA Cup quarter final, on 8 March, Taylor scored both goals, in only his fifth West Ham game, as The Hammers beat Arsenal 2-0 at Highbury. The semi-final against Ipswich Town ended goalless at Villa Park but, in the replay at Stamford Bridge on 9 April, Taylor again scored both goals in a 2-1 win, and then Taylor scored the two goals against Fulham which won West Ham the 1975 FA Cup Final at Wembley. Captain Billy Bonds; Trevor Brooking; goalkeeper Mervyn Day, Billy Jennings; Frank Lampard; Kevin Locke; John McDowell and Graham Paddon played in all eight of West Ham's games in the cup run, and Mervyn Day was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
