West Ham United 1995 Away Centenary Retro Shirt
Thames Ironworks FC were founded in 1895, and became West Ham United FC in 1900. A "works" team from the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company rooted in West Ham, and playing initially at Hermit Road in Canning Town, then at Browning Road in East Ham, and then the Memorial Ground in West Ham before moving to the Boleyn Ground in 1904 were The Irons would remain until moving into The London Stadium in 2016.
In their first 100 years West Ham played in the very first FA Cup Final at The Empire Stadium Wembley - The 1923 White Horse Final. Won the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium in 1964, 1975 and 1980. Won the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup at Wembley Stadium in 1965, and the West Ham United Holy Trinity of Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters won the FIFA Jules Rimet World Cup at Wembley Stadium for England in 1966.
Celebrating 100 years in 1995-96 West Ham United finished 10th in the FA Premier League under Manager Harry Redknapp. In their Centenary season West Ham won their first point in their third game, wearing the West Ham United 1995 Away Centenary Retro Shirt in a 1-1draw at Nottingham Forest with 'Mad Dog' Martin Allen on the scoresheet. The biggest home attendance of the season was on Wednesday evening 22 November when there were 24,324 in attendance at Upton Park to witness a goalless draw against Liverpool. West Ham recorded 5 away wins in the FA Premier League with the highlight being a seven day period in February when a Dani goal secured a 0-1 win over Spurs at White Hart Lane followed a week later by a 1-2 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when Julian Dicks and Danny Williamson scored the Claret and Blue goals.
In West Ham United's Centenary season Tony Cottee made 30 league appearances and scored 10 league goals. Julian Dicks made 34 league appearances and also weighed in with 10 league goals and "The Terminator" was the 1996 Hammer of the Year too. Ian Dowie made 38 league appearances scoring 8 league goals, and Ludêk Mikloŝko, Marc Rieper and Steve Potts all made over 30 league appearances. West Ham Academy of Football graduates Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand both made their Claret and Blue debuts during the West Ham United Centenary season too.
