Tottenham’s “Push and Run” team Manager Arthur Rowe, signed Danny Blanchflower from Aston Villa, for £30,000 in December 1954. In a 10-year career with the north London club, Blanchflower made a total of 382 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 21 goals, including a penalty in the 1962 FA Cup final victory over Burnley. As Manager Bill Nicholson’s captain, Danny Blancflower led Tottenham Hotspur to the Football League Championship and FA Cup Double in 1961, the FA Cup again in 1962, and victory over Atletico Madrid in the final of the 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup, as Tottenham became the first British side to win a European trophy. Captain of Northern Ireland during the 1958 World Cup Finals in Sweden, when they reached the Quarter Finals, Blancflower was voted 1958 FWA Footballer of the Year, and was voted FWA Footballer of the Year again in 1961, Tottenham’s Double season. Danny Blanchflower retired on 5 April 1964 having captained Spurs to 4 major trophies.
