Newcastle United broke the World Transfer Record when Kevin Keegan signed Alan Shearer from Blackburn Rovers for £15 million in July 1996. In ten years with Newcastle United, Gosforth born Shearer, who watched Newcastle United from the terraces as a boy, and played his local football with both Cramlington Juniors and Wallsend Boys Club, made 404 appearances and scored 202 goals for The Magpies.  Shearer is Newcastle United’s all-time leading goalscorer, and The FA Premier League all-time leading goalscorer. In 2004, he was named in the FIFA 100 list, as FIFA celebrated their centenary by honouring the 100 greatest living players.
