West Ham United 2006 FA Cup Final Retro Shirt

West Ham United v Liverpool. Millennium Stadium. Cardiff. Saturday 13 May 2006. The 125th FA Cup Final. It's an FA Cup Final classic. Twelve months earlier West Ham were winning the Football League Championship Play-Off Final to return to the FA Premier League whilst Liverpool were winning the UEFA Champions League in the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. The Reds were clear favourites but, West Ham were 2-0 ahead in the FA Cup Final after 28 minutes. The first goal was a Jamie Carragher own goal after a Lionel Scaloni cut-back. The second goal was a smart Dean Ashton finish after a Matthew Etherington shot was spilled by Pepe Reina in the Liverpool goal. Djibril Cissé halved the deficit from a Steven Gerrard pass on 32 minutes, and Gerrard volleyed Liverpool level at 2-2 on 54 minutes. Ten minutes later Paul Konchesky put The Irons back in the lead, and going into the 90th minute The Hammers' captain Nigel Reo-Coker had one hand on The FA Cup that was about to be adorned with metaphorical Claret and Blue ribbons. Then at the death, Gerrard struck, as only Gerrard could, a 30 yard equaliser that defies belief. No wonder it's called the ''Gerrard Final', and Stevie G's world class performance is the only plausible reason West Ham didn't take the FA Cup back to Upton Park. Make no mistake, West Ham were the better team, superb in many phases of the match with Yossi Benayoun playing magnificently throughout the two hours. The Irons could have won it on more than one occasion in extra-time too, when Teddy Sheringham was superb, and Nigel Reo-Coker saw his 119th minute effort tipped on to the post by Pepe Reina, and Marlon Harewood put the rebound wide. Liverpool won the penalty shoot-out 3-1 but, West Ham United deserved to win the 125th FA Cup Final.
