West Ham United 2000 Retro Football Shirt

West Ham United 1999-2000. A UEFA Intertoto Cup. An ineligible player leading to a void Football League Cup tie. A Paolo Di Canio BBC Match of the Day Goal of the Month that is, to this day, the only ever Hammers BBC Match of the Day Goal of the Season. The new West Ham United 2000 Retro Shirt for the second season of the Dr Martens shirt sponsorship agreement, and a total of five different goalkeepers between the Claret and Blue sticks in the 38 FA Premier League games too! What a season. Where d'ya start?

West Ham United started at Upton Park on the afternoon of Saturday 17 July in the UEFA Intertoto Cup 3rd Round against the Finnish team FC Jokerit. Paul Kitson scored the only goal of the game in front of 11,908 at The Boleyn. Frank Lampard scored in the 1-1 draw away in Finland, and scored again in the 1-0 Semi-Final 1st Leg 1-0 home win versus SC Heerenveen. Paolo Wanchope scored in the 0-1 Semi-Final 2nd Leg victory in the SC Heerenveen Abe Lenstra Stadion putting The Irons into their UEFA Intertoto Cup Final where The Hammers wore the West Ham United 1999 Away Retro Football Shirt at home in the 1st Leg 0-1 defeat versus FC Metz. Louis Saha scored the FC Metz goal, and Sebastien Schemmel was outstanding for Les Grenats. Sebastien Schemmel would be the 2002 Hammer of the Year. The 2nd Leg in France was a great West Ham night. Wearing the West Ham United 2000 Retro Football Shirt The Irons overturned the 0-1 deficit in style. Trevor Sinclair, Frank Lampard and Paolo Wanchope scored in the 1-3 victory, and when German referee Hellmut Krug blew the final whistle it was Claret and Blue champagne and Bubbles all round, and a place in the 1999-2000 UEFA Cup alongside fellow UEFA Intertoto Cup Winners Juventus and Montpellier who, like The Hammers, had won their UEFA Intertoto Cup(s).

In the FA Premier League, in the absence of Steve Lomas, Stuart Pearce captained The Irons in the opening day 1-0 victory against Spurs at The Boleyn. Frank Lampard scored the goal. On Sunday 3 October Paolo Di Canio scored both goals in a 2-0 Upton Park win against Arsenal. Di Canio's first goal was a triumph of impressario perseverance assisted by Trevor Sinclair and Paolo Wanchope. Di Canio's second goal in front of the Upton Park South Bank was pure Lazio in a Claret and Blue shirt.

In December West Ham defeated Aston Villa in the Football League Cup Quarter-Final on penalties in E.17. Bizarrely, West Ham's Emmanuel Omoyinmi had already represented Gillingham in an earlier round, and the game had to be replayed in January. Without the ineligible Omoyinmi The Irons lost to The Villians but, the best was yet to come. And it came at Upton Park on Sunday 26 March in the FA Premier League against Wimbledon. On 9 minutes Trevor Sinclair arrowed a 30 yard crossfield directive to West Ham United No10 Paolo Di Canio. Di Canio10 didn't bother to bring it down. Di Canio10 didn't need to bring it down. Di Canio10 just volleyed it back into the far corner. It's not just the BBC Match of the Day Goal of the Season, it's one if the greatest goals the FA Premier League has ever seen. West Ham’s No10 Paolo Di Canio is the 1999-2000 Hammer of the Year, and Shaka Hislop; Craig Forrest; Saša Illić, Ian Feuer and Stephen Bywater are the five FA Premier League 1999-2000 custodian of the Claret and Blue sticks
