West Ham United 1992 Away Retro Football Shirt

West Ham United clinched automatic promotion to the FA Premier League as runners-up in the 1992-93 Football League Division One Championship. On the last day of the marathon 46 game league season, The Hammers hosted Cambridge United knowing that they stood level on 85 points with Portsmouth having crucially scored one more goal than Pompey. The Irons needed to ensure they won the game, and maintained their 'Goals Scored' advantage over Portsmouth. In front of a packed Upton Park with the gates locked well before kick-off, Steve Potts received the 1993 Hammer of the Year Award before the match began, and after a nervy, goalless first-half, David Speedie put West Ham in front early in the second-half, and with Pompey 2-1 up at Fratton Park against Grimsby Town, West Ham might just need another goal, to make sure. Cue Julian Dicks with a signature rampaging run into enemy territory, followed by a signature 50/50 tackle won in the U's penalty box, followed by a cool pass for Clive Allen to tuck away the promotion clinching goal in front of The Upton Park South Bank. Manager Billy Bonds and Assistant Manager Harry Redknapp had steered West Ham back into the top-flight of English football. The FA Premier League. Trevor Morley top-scored with 20 league goals; Clive Allen scored 14 in the league, Julian Dicks contributed 11 league goals, Mark Robson scored 8 Division One goals, and Ludêk Mikloŝko; Steve Potts and Kevin Keen played in every one of the 46 Football League Division One games.

West Ham began the season on Sunday 16 August in Barnsley where, wearing the West Ham United 1992 Away Retro Football Shirt, The Hammers beat The Tykes 0-1 courtesy of a Clive Allen strike. The Irons wore the West Ham United 1992 Away Retro Football Shirt in seven of their away league games during the season, and didn't lose a match. Barnsley 0-1 at Oakwell; Peterborough United 1-3 at London Road; Bristol City 1-5 at Ashton Gate; Portsmouth 0-1 at Fratton Park; Charlton Athletic 1-1 at The Valley; Sunderland 0-0 at Roker Park, and Swindon Town 1-3 at The County Ground.

On Monday 24 February 1993 the World of Football mourned the loss of Bobby Moore. The following weekend every football ground in England observed a one minute silence in memory of West Ham United's greatest ever footballer and in memory the greatest defender ever to play the game. One week later Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst led the West Ham United tribute to Bobby Moore at The Boleyn Ground before West Ham's Football League Division One fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
