The 1957 FA Cup Final; Ason Villa vs Manchester United played on 4 May 1957 in front of 99,225 at Wembley Stadium.
Both teams wore their Away kits for the day
Villa won 2–1, with both of their goals scored by Peter McParland. Tommy Taylor got
Uniteds goal.
The final was marred by a collision after only six minutes between Villa forward Peter McParland and United goalkeeper
Ray Wood, which left Wood unconscious with a broken cheekbone. Wood left the pitch and Jackie Blanchflower took over in
goal for United. Wood eventually rejoined the game in an outfield position as a virtual passenger before returning to goal
for the last seven minutes of the game.

Aston Villa 1957 FA Cup Final Retro Football Shirt
When Aston Villa walked up the Wembley Tunnel into the sunlight, and onto the hallowed turf under the Twin Towers, led by manager Eric Houghton, The Villans were clear underdogs against Matt Busby's Manchester United in the 1957 FA Cup Final. The Busby Babes had just won the Football League Division One Championship for the second successive season, had taken Real Madrid close in the 1957 UEFA European Cup semi-final, and in Duncan Edwards had the finest footballer of a generation, and 19 year-old Bobby Charlton was in the Red Devils team too. The Villa had finished 10th in Football League Division One but, they had won both the Second City derbies beating Birmingham City 3-1 at Villa Park courtesy of goals from Jackie Sewel, Ken Roberts and Stan Lynn, and winning 1-2 away at St Andrew’s with Roy Chapman claiming both the Villa goals.
Villa's 1957 FA Cup Final road to Wembley began with a 2-2 draw against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road but, Villa won the replay 2-0 back in Aston. Middlesbrough were beaten 2-3 in the 4th Round tie at Ayresome Park, and Bristol City were beaten 2-1 in the 5th Round tie at Villa Park. Burnley and Villa shared a 1-1 draw in the 6th Round tie at Turf Moor but Villa won the replay 2-0 back at Trinity Road in Aston, and this set up a West Midlands derby in The 1957 FA Cup Semi-Fnal. Aston Villa versus West Bromwich Albion. After a 2-2 draw at Molineux when Peter McParland scored both the Villa goals, Aston Villa won the Semi-Fnal replay 1-0 at St Andrew’s with a Bill Myerscough goal.
Six minutes into the 1957 FA Cup Final Aston Villa's Peter McParland collided with Manchester United's goalkeeper Ray Wood, leaving Wood unconscious and with a broken cheekbone. Wood left the pitch. United's Jackie Blanchflower took over in goal, and with ten men the Busby Babes took the game to Villa. Ray Wood returned to stand, as a passenger out on the wing, in the 58th minute. Then lifelong Villa fan Peter McParland struck for the Villans in the 68th and 73rd minutes to put the Villa two goals to the good, and although Tommy Taylor pulled a goal back for United, and although Ray Wood went back in goal for the final minutes, it was Aston Villa captain Johnny Dixon who climbed the 39 steps to receive the 1957 FA Cup from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
