Aston Villa 1982 Champions of Europe Retro Shirt
The Aston Villa 1982 Champions of Europe Retro Shirt. On Saturday 30 October 1982 The Villa played like the Champions of Europe too in dismantling FA Cup holders Spurs 4-0 in a Football League Division One fixture at Villa Park. Following a goalless first-half Gordon Cowans opened the floodgates by converting a right foot penalty after Peter Withe had been impeded in the box, then 'Sid' latched on to a Gary Shaw-Dennis Mortimer combination to send a left foot drive sizzling past Ray Clemence in the Tottenham goal for his, and Villa's second. Tony Morley drilled home the third, and then Dennis Mortimer maurauded forward before picking out Gary Shaw who buried a diving header with typical élan. Four second half goals at The Holte End. This was the Aston Villa 1982 Champions of Europe at their coruscating best.
The Aston Villa 1982 Champions of Europe Shirt was sometimes worn with the 'Davenports' shirt sponsorship. It was sometimes worn with the Villa Crest and 'Champions of Europe' legend positioned on the left, not in the centre, of the shirt, and specifically so in the Intercontinental Cup / Toyota Cup (Now The FIFA Club World Cup) versus the Copa Libertadores Champions Peñarol in Tokyo; and in the 2nd-Leg of the UEFA Super Cup versus FC Barcelona at Villa Park when goals from Gary Shaw, Gordon Cowans and Ken McNaught overturned a one goal 1st-Leg deficit from Camp Nou as Villa added the UEFA Super Cup to the 1982 UEFA European Cup; and also in the UEFA European Cup Quarter-Final when Juventus fielded six of the España82 FIFA World Cup winning Azzurri in their line-up: Dino Zoff; Claudio Gentile; Antonio Cabrini; Gaetano Scirea; Marco Tardelli and Paolo Rossi, and Michel Platini, Zbigniew Boniek and Roberto Bettaga turned out for la Vecchia Signora against The Villa too. Between March 1982 and March 1983 Aston Villa went toe-to-toe with Dynamo Kyiv; RSC Anderlecht; FC Bayern München; Peñarol; FC Barcelona and Juventus. The Aston Villa 1982 Champions of Europe were one of the best club sides on the planet.
