Aston Villa 1984 Retro Football Shirt
Aston Villa's longest running shirt sponsorship remains the ten year partnership with photocopier brand mita, and this Aston Villa 1984 Retro Football Shirt was famously worn by Didier Six when he made his Villa debut against Ron Atkinson's Manchester United in October 1984. Aston Villa manager Graham Turner secured the services of Didier Six on loan from French Ligue 2 club FC Mulhouse, and Six made an immediate impact creating Villa's first goal on 20 minutes for Peter Withe at the Witton End, on the way to a 3-0 Villa victory over United. In front of Villa Park's biggest crowd of the season Villa captain Allan Evans scored the second goal on 25 minutes, and in the second-half Paul Rideout added the third at The Holte End. With the game won, Didier Six left the pitch to a standing ovation, to be replaced by Mark Walters who should have immediately headed a fourth Villa goal from a Paul Birch cross. Indeed Birch, Steve McMahon and Gordon Cowans were magnificent in the Villa midfield in orchestrating the 3-0 victory, and delivering Manchester United's first defeat of the campaign. At the end of the 1984-85 season Villa finished 10th in Football League Division One, Paul Rideout top-scored with 14 goals in all competitions, and Didier Six, a star for France in the Argentina78 and España82 FIFA World Cup Finals, a member of the France UEFA84 European Championship winning team, and one of the best left wingers in european football, went back to France to play for FC Metz in Ligue 1.
