Kevin Keegan arrived as the new City manager for the 2001-2002 season. Eyal Berkovic and Stuart Pearce arrived too, and both scored on their City debuts in the 3-0 victory versus Watford at Maine Road after Shuan Goater had opened the scoring. In December Shuan Wright-Phillips scored his first City goal in the 2-3 away win versus Millwall at The New Den when there was barely a City fan in the ground to see it but, Darren Huckerby celebrated City's second goal in front of the empty away end in classic fashion after Shaun Goater had opened the scoring in the first-half. Thus City team were way to good for The Football League First Division and celebrated a return to The FA Premier League with a Darren Huckerby hat-trick and a John Macken brace in the 5-1 valedictory versus Barnsley at Maine Road in April.
