Manchester City 1972 Retro Football Shirt
Manchester City have won the FA Premier League eight times since moving into the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003. First with Roberto Mancini in 2012 with 'the' Sergio Agüero goal. Then with Manuel Pellegrini in 2014, and The Cityzens have added six more FAPL Titles to date with Pep Guardiola. Along the way Sergio Agüero has scored 260 record breaking goals to became City's all-time record goalscorer. The two English Championships secured during the previous 80 years at Maine Road on Moss Side mean City are 10 times Champions of England. Today the Blue Moon shines brightly over The Etihad Stadium in Manchester where The Colin Bell Stand pays tribute to 'The King of the Kippax', and the custodians of The Kippax continue 'singing in the rain' and doing 'The Poznan'. It's 'Typical City'.
Colin Bell scored two, and forced a third - a Martin Buchan own goal - when City thrashed United 3-0 at Maine Road in the November 1972 Manchester derby. After a 3-2 Football League Division One loss away at Highfield Road in October when Rodney Marsh and Mike Summerbee scored against Coventry City the Blues went on an impressive five match unbeaten run culminating in the 3-0 win over Manchester United on Moss Side. First, West Ham United were beaten 4-3 at Maine Road courtesy of a Rodney Marsh brace, Mike Summerbee and Tony Towers. It was followed by a scoreless draw versus Arsenal at Highbury before reigning champions Derby County were dismantled 4-0 at Maine Road through Frank Carrodus, Rodney Marsh, Colin Bell and a Colin Todd own goal, and then before the United match, Everton were beaten 2-3 at Goodison Park when Franny Lee bagged a brace to go with a Henry Newton Toffees own goal. In the 1972-73 season when City first wore the MCFC crest with the Red Rose of Lancashire incorporated into the design, City finished 11th in the First Division, manager Malcolm Allison who'd taken over from Joe Mercer in the summer of 1972, was replaced by City legend Johnny Hart in March, and Rodney Marsh top-scored with 19 goals in all competitions, whilst Franny Lee contributed 17 goals and Colin Bell, the 'King of the Kippax', scored 10 goals.
