Manchester City 1988 Away Retro Shirt
City picked up their first win of the1988-89 season in their fifth game with a 2-1 victory versus Brighton & Hove Albion at Maine Road. Ian Brightwell opened the scoring at the Platt Lane End, and after The Seagulls had equalised, Paul Moulden struck a second-half corker to claim the win. Four days later manager Mel Machin picked the same team as City picked up a first away win with a 1-3 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and Ian Brightwell with a brace and Paul Moulden again scored the goals. City and Chelsea ended the season in the Football League Division Two automatic promotion places but City, 'Typical City', made the Cityzens faithful wait until the 86th minute of the final game at Bradford City before Trevor Morley scored the goal that secured a 1-1 score draw at Valley Parade to confirm City's promotion. Paul Moulden top-scored with 17 goals in all competitions, Steve Redmond and David White made more than 50 appearances, and Neil McNab was Player of the Year as City returned to the Top-Flight of English football.
