The iconic Tottenham Hotspur 1978 Admiral Shirt. A postmodern statement of football style.

Worn by Tottenham in their highest ever league win when Bristol Rovers were annihilated 9-0 at The Lane in October of the 1977-78 Second Division promotion season but, raised to truly iconic status at the August 1978 White Hart Lane pre-season photocall, when Manager Keith Burkinshaw unveiled his revolutionary new signings Osvaldo Ardiles and Ricardo Villa, both proudly wearing the THFC Admiral style classic.

From seemingly nowhere, Spurs had signed two of the Argentina '78 World Cup Winners, and on the opening day of the 1978-79 season, away at reigning Football League Division One Champions Nottingham Forest, Ossie Ardiles began his marvellous midfield partnership with Glenn Hoddle,  and it was Ricky Villa who danced around Peter Shilton in The Forest goal to score The Spurs equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

As David Lacey, writing in The Guardian, describing Spurs Manager Keith Burkinshaw travelling to Buenos Aires to secure the services of Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa put it: "It was if the janitor had gone to buy a tin of paint and returned with a Velázquez". Burkinshaw was no janitor but, a visionary progressive who'd returned from Argentina with not one but, two Velázquez for the bargain sum of £750,000. The 1978 Tottenham Hotspur Admiral Retro Shirt is a postmodern Old Master too.
