Jürgen Klinsmann joined Tottenham Hotspur for £2milion from AS Monaco in the summer of 1994, and made his Spurs debut on the opening day of the season at Sheffield Wednesday. Manager Ossie Ardiles announced that with 5 superb attacking players to choose from, he was going to play them all. So at Hillsborough Darren Anderton, Ilie Dumitrescu, Nick Barmby, Teddy Sheringham and Jürgen Klinsmann all played their part in a thrilling 3-4 victory. Sheringham opened the scoring and Anderton doubled the lead. Barmby then restored Tottenham's lead after The Owls had drawn level at 2-2, and the cherry on the cake was Klinsmann heading home the fourth goal, followed by the expertly executed, wonderfully choreographed Swan Dive celebration. Was the tongue in cheek goal celebration the artistic work of Teddy Sheringham? Almost certainly. Jürgen Klinsmann was awarded the 1995 Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year.
