Scotland 1998 World Cup Finals Retro Shirt

The FIFA World Cup France '98. Craig Brown’s Scotland qualified by finishing 2nd in UEFA Qualifying Group 4 behind Austria and ahead of Sweden, Latvia, Estonia and Belarus. Kevin Gallacher was the leading goalscorer for Scotland in qualification netting six. David Hopkin claimed two, and Tom Boyd, John Collins, Gordon Durie, Darren Jackson, John McGinley and Gary McAllister all scored one apiece. Scotland played and won all of their five home games away from Hampden Park as the Mount Florida ground was undergoing refurbishment. Scotland beat Sweden 1-0 at Ibrox; Estonia 2-0 at Rugby Park; Austria 2-0  at Celtic Park; Belarus 4-1 at Pittodrie, and Latvia 2-0 back in the East End of Glasgow at Parkhead, and of course, in Estonia, there's only "One Team In Tallinn".

At France '98 Scotland were drawn in Group A alongside Brasil, Norway and Morocco. FIFA World Champions Brasil had the honour of opening the tournament versus The Lion Rampant in front of 80,000 in Stade de France and in front of an estimated 500 million viewing televised coverage in 195 countries worldwide. J.League Yokohama Marinos' César Sampaio headed Brasil in front after just four minutes. On 38 minutes AS Monaco maestro John Collins equalised from the the spot after Kevin Gallacher had drawn a foul from César Simpaio. Long into the second half Scotland were compact, organised and looking good for a draw until Cafu made the Brasil 1970 Carlos Alberto right-back run. Just like Péle in Estadio Azteca Mexico '70, J. League's Jűbilo Iwata Brasilian captain Dunga saw the run, and found the pass. Jim Leighton blocked Cafu but the ball ricocheted off Tom Boyd, and bounced into the goal. Scotland 1 - 2 Brasil.

In Scotland's second game, played in the beautiful Arte Déco style Stade du Parc Lescure, the home of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, Craig Burley equalised the goal of Werder Bremen striker Hårvard Flo to secure Scotland a 1-1 versus Norway. Meaning: Scotland had to beat Morocco to go through and hope Norway didn’t beat Brasil. In Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, the home of AS Saint Étienne, Scotland list 0-3 versus the Atlas Lions, and in Stade Vélodrome, the home of Olympic Marseille, Norway beat Brasil. Del Amitiri.
