Bob Paisley signed Kenny Dalglish from Celtic on 10 August 1977, for £440,000. Three days later, Dalglish played at Wembley in the drawn Charity Shield against Manchester United. Scoring Liverpool’s goal, 7 minutes into his league debut, in a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday 20 August, Dalglish then scored the opening goal, in front of The Kop, on his home debut in a 2-0 win against Newcastle United, on Tuesday 23 August. In his first season, he played in every one of Liverpool’s 62 First Class matches, and scored the only goal, against Bruges at Wembley in The European Cup Final, as Liverpool retained their European Title. As a player, Liverpool legend Dalglish appeared 515 times for the club, scored 172 goals. He won three European Cups, six Football League Championships, one FA Cup and four Football League Cups, and was both PFA & FWA Footballer of the Year in 1983. What Dalglish achieved as Liverpool manager, including being named Manager of the Year in 1986, 1988 and 1989, added to his already iconic status.
